Aug 1. Continued south to Onset for the night and a pizza and beer party for the crew at Mark Anthony's there. Aug 2. Motored to Cotuit, in the fog again, arriving at our mooring in mid-afternoon, to end our Tall Ship events for this year almost three months after leaving the Cape on May 7th. Aug 15. After spending a week or so of R & R, we reboarded LARINDA this evening, Tuesday, to set out tomorrow morning for Long Island Sound with a crew of six. Aug 16. A usual early morning start brought us to a mooring in Newport, RI by mid-afternoon. Dinner on board, then most went ashore to walk about. Aug 17-20. Off to Mystic Seaport to take part in the Annual Antique Motor Show. This is a nice exposition of motors from small outboards to small steam engines, some in small boats, to larger engines such as the 1928 Wolverine on LARINDA. The weather cooperated all weekend for the attendees. On Saturday night, LARINDA's crew and some of the crew's relatives went to downtown Mystic for pizza. Aug 21. No wind, so we motored to Bridgeport, CT. Aug 22. Again the sound was flat as a pancake and we motored to Greenport, Long Island. Greenport is located on the eastern end, on Gardiners Bay. Aug 24. After a couple of days of relaxation in Greenport, we went to Newport to pick up 6 passengers for the coming weekend. They came aboard late in the afternoon and we all became acquainted during dinner. Aug 25. Underway with a fair breeze. Up went the sails and we headed west for Cuttyhunk. We were able to sail most of the way, but then the wind shifted, then died, so we ended up motoring to the anchorage just outside of the island. Two of the guests took the dinghy ashore to walk around. As those who know the island, there is not much to see or do there, at least compared to Boston. Soon they were back and we had a delicious salmon dinner on board. Aug 26. Weighed anchor in flat calm for Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard and arrived fairly early to pick up a mooring. Everyone went ashore to explore. Aug 27. Again what wind there was, was on our nose, so we motored back to Newport. The passengers thought that they might want to swim along the way, but changed their minds while traveling. Again we picked up a mooring, discharged the guests and spent a quiet evening aboard. Aug 28-29. Returned to Falmouth on Cape Cod, tied up at the town dock and spent the next day doing odd jobs. Aug 30. Still at the dock and showed the ship to visitors. Aug 31. Underway for Boston to participate in the Antique and Classic Boat Show on Long Wharf on Labor Day weekend, as LARINDA has done for the past two years, but this night we anchored off Nahant. We will enter the harbor tomorrow. |
